View Full Version : Lump in Adductor Longus?

Hey there,

A little over a year ago I was at a tournament, and I jumped in the air (stupidly without warming up). I felt almost a snapping sensation at the top of my right leg, and immense pain when I put weight on it. Much of the pain subsided, and (again, stupidly, I know) I continued to limp about the pitch, thinking it wasn't too bad. A couple of days later, my entire inner thigh down to my knee bruised up (but the bruise wasn't painful to the touch: just the upper leg / groin area). Figuring I'd given myself groin strain, I gave myself plenty of rest and told myself that if I hadn't improved in a month I'd go to the doctors. The injury seemed to heal, and all was well - except that I've now got a large lump on my adductor longus near the top of my leg. It's not painful except when I stress it heavily (seems more of a weak spot than anything else) and I have full motion use of my leg.

I'm going to the doctors when I get back home (I'm a university student) but I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what this may be in advance? I figure it could be something quite nasty (and I know I'm an idiot for not getting it sorted before!)

Cheers in advance,

James

If the lump is very hard and solid to feel then it could be myositis ossificans. This is a lump of bone which grows within a muscle following an injury. Getting the right treatment following a bad strain can help avoid these. You can find out more here:

http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/frontthigh/myositis.htm

If it is not hard, it is more than likely the point where the muscle tore and has healed poorly. Not getting massage and stretching etc can mean excess scar tissue develops and also the muscle fibres do not heal in the nice alignment they were in before.

If its hard, go to the Doctor, if its not go to a physio or similar.

Good luck!
