I've been suffering from some issues in my hip and butt for a few months now. I originally went to a chiropractor and while this helped with the symptoms some, it was not getting me completely better. I went to an ortho and was diagnosed with a hip stress fracture. I was off for about 6 weeks healing that and started running again. After running for about 5 weeks, I started experiencing similar pain in my glute - side and back. I went back to the doctor and he thinks that a torn glute muscle he saw in my first MRI is rearing up again and that I have tendonitis where my hamstring meets my hip.

Fortunately the pain from where the torn muscle has diminished significantly. The pain from the tendonitis is still there a bit and I'm feeling a little twingy pain in the front of the hip where the stress fracture was. We are awating the MRI results - hopefully tomorrow. But if it does turn out to be best case scenario and only the muscle and tendonitis (no stress fracture), how long of a recovery period can I be looking at? And what type of PT can I expect?

Thank you!

Its difficult to answer how long this will take as it depends on the severity of your particular case.

For hamstring tendonitis the usual treatment ca be seen here:

Thank you. What about the muscle tear part? I wasn't able to find anything on this site about muscle tears and wondered about that as well.

No, torn glute muscles are not particularly common. Provided it is only a partial tear and so relatively minor it should heal well with rest, followed by a rehab program including stretching, strengthening and massage.
