Osteitis Pubis is confirmed by MRI. It will show incredible inflammation in the pubic bone.
Inflammation in this area long term can leach the area of calcium, breaking down the area, causing cystic changes to show up on x-ray. There is a vertical shift that is seen, meaning one pubic bone is higher than the other. This puts the pelvis off kilter, and the muscles attaching to the pelvis have to compensate for the imbalance. THis causes tightness and weakness. Tightness to the point of the muscles tugging on the ligaments and tendons, which then tug on the attachment points on the pelvis, which cause massive inflammation of the bone (basically, a nasty nasty bruise in your bone) More decrease of function occurs, more weakness, etc.
Yes, stretching and strengthening is important, however ONLY after the inflammation has been eliminated. How does one know if its gone? You will feel no more bone pain.
Only then can a rehab program to strech and strengthen begin.
The way to get the inflammation down is usally ordered 3 months of complete rest. This does not help many people, as the cause hasn't been addressed...which is the misaligned pubic bone. How do you get the pubic bone aligned without re-inflaming self? Well, there is a guy named garry miritis at miritismassage.com in Australia who has perfected the technique. I am a former sufferer who got to the point I couldn't walk. I went to see him after reading several success stories on the other forum http://injuryupdate.com.au/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12
and he healed me. I am in no way affiliated with him, I have no vested interest, I just hate to see others suffer and search endlessly like me. THis was the answer I found, and he have me my life back in 2 weeks, 4 treatments later. Lots has been written about what he does, how he does it on the link I just added. Check out the Osteitis Pubis threads and you'll start seeing. Thank God for this kind of communication as it brings all of us toghether across the world, to help each other.
Cheers! Here's to healing...
Best of luck, Kir
