Ive just been diagnosed as having Gilmores groin following a RTA on my motorbike at work (I tried to hold up a big BMW after a van hit me side on ! ) .
The physio feels that its best to get it treated privately (eg. Gilmore clinic @ Harley St). Does anyone know if the NHS have a reasonably good or proven track record with this type of injury. After all its a reasonably common sports injury ?.
Or, does anyone have any suggestions as to how/who/where I can make some enquiries on NHS performance, Im sure as a patient I can have a say as to where I have the surgery.
Thanks in advance.
My personal opinion would be that if you want it corrected sooner rather than later then go private.
I've got nothing against the NHS and have personally received some excellent care with other health matters, but sports injuries won't be deemed as a high priority (and rightly so) and our already overstretched services will have a long waiting time. You would need to be referred to an osteopath I would think, which from personal experience can take many months. They would then carry out their own diagnosis which may not even agree with your original one.
Going to a specialist in this field would be my personal choice. I did a lot of research into GG when I was originally diagnosed with it and the experiences you hear on the NHS are not good.
I'm not sure how much say you have in choice of location though. NHS trusts work regionally and in my experience you can only be referred within your region. Luckily for me I live near one of the best hospitals in Europe... but also near a very bad one!
Also, there may be other contributory factors which need to be corrected to ensure a complete recovery and prevention in future as it is a condition with a fairly high rate of recurrence, I believe.
Whichever route you choose I wish you luck.

Thanks Nick, I appreciate that.
I suspected that was the case. It looks like a visit to Harley St !.
There are two possibles for the NHS (One is Colchester where one of the partners at the Gilmore clinic works ..sometimes!). The other is a Newham have a sports clinic. I'll suck it and see with my gp and the referral.
