I just completed my first marathon on 4 may. Soon after finishing I got a pain on the outside edge of my left foot just below the ankle bone. There doesn't seem to be any swelling but it looks a bit bruised. After 3 days I still find it very sore and uncomfortable to walk. I had an x-ray and it was normal with no problems, I was told it was probably sprained from running the marathon.

I have done a bit of research on the Internet to try and find out the problem. I have decided that "peroneal tendinitis" may be the cause of my pains

Can anyone help. It is very frustrating doing nothing.

Hi
Peroneal tendonitis is definitely a possibility from where you said the pain is.
Unfortunately a larger part of treatment is rest.
Other than that, ice, anti-inflammatories and stretching the calf muscles until walking becomes pain-free.

You could try sports massage to the calf, shin and peroneal muscles initially and once comfortable to do so, the tendon itself. You can find all of this information here:

Thanks for the information. I will take a break from training for a while until is clears. Will also try the ice, anti-inflammatories and stretching.
