View Full Version : Odd Feeling In Foot

Hi everyone!

Last weekend I did a long mountain hike (well 3 mountains!).

The day after the walk my foot was ok, but since then I have developed a problem.

Looking down at my right foot - I will number the toes 1 2 3 4 5 (where 1 is the big toe - unsure if thats correct order, but that's what I will use for this question)

Directly in line with the gap beteen toes 2 and 3, and about half an inch into the foot from the base of the toes, I get a "clunk" feeling most times when I bend my foot. It does not hurt, but feels awkward and not right at all. I have never had anything like this, and am finding it quite hard to explain it really.

It doesnt seem swollen in anyway, and when I press around the entire foot I get no pain at all.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be the problem? And for that matter does anyone understand what I tried to write haha!

Cheers everyone!

Ian

Hi Ian

Firstly, yes I understand what you wrote!

However, I do not know what the problem may be. It is obviously an overuse injury, due to its occurance following such a prolonged period of exertion, rather than coming on very suddenly with instant pain.
The fact that you don't feel any pain is a positive however. I think the best route to take is to continue to rest it, but also to implement a daily stretching routine for the muscles of the lower leg. This may seem strange - but my thinking is that tighteness in these muscles following your hike could be causing the problem. Have a look at this page:

If there was pain involved I would be saying consider metatarsalgia or mortons neuroma, or even bursitis (there is a bursa under head of the 2nd metatarsal).

For now, I would rest, and stretch 3 times a day. If there is no improvement then visit a Doctor or sports injury specialist. You might require insoles/orthotics.
