View Full Version : Burning pain after skipping a day of cycling

Hi,

I cycle at least an hour every day, normally 7 days a week. Every time I skip a day of training, I get a sharp, burning pain in both legs about 24 to 48 hours later, which keeps me from cycling and even from walking for up to a week and a half.

The pain doesn't stay in one place but may appear in one muscle now, but another muscle in the other leg an hour later.

Neither my doctor nor a specialist in sports injuries I've seen had ever heard of this. Has anyone else ever heard of this condition?

I'm not only interested in prevention or treatment, it would also be helpful just knowing whether this really exists, or if I should see a psychiatrist instead.

Hi

I can see that your predicament is frustrating and with clients presenting similar sysmptoms I see from time to time quite often persistance is the key.

So regular stretching concentrating on specific area's and muscle groups combined with shorter lighther training sessions ensuring warm up and warm downs are followed over a period of time will be key. Combine this with continued periodic sessions with a sports therapist/masseur (who is locally recomended) who will I am sure also advise on other 'self therapy' in between their sessions; such as hold/cold contrast bathing, self massage, core stability and so on.
