I am a 15 year old male, I run long distance and train almost everyday. I run cross country and distance track. During this past summer training for cross country, I started to feel pain in my right hip and as I kept training It progressively got worse. I realize it is not a smart thing to do but I continue to train just not as intense or as long as normal. I also play soccer on a high level and have been training for the past few weeks. It has been bothering me more than it has. I don't know exactly when or where it started to hurt. But I am almost positive that soccer from the season before created the injury from the twisting, sprinting, and quick changing of motion and directions. I walk with a slight limp, I am able to stretch it before workouts and it relieves me to an extent. When I move in a rotating motion, I can feel stiffness or a sort of soreness and feel/hear a popping or a "clicking" sound. This only occurs when it is rotated past a certain point but is painful. I am currently going to a physical therapist twice a week and it is helping from what I can tell so far. I know you are probably thinking wow, this person complains a lot, just go to the therapist, stretch, and don't train if it hurts, but I am just asking for as many opinions, advice, or comments that could at least tell me a few possibilities of what my injury is! Thank you for your time it is very much appreciated!

Hi PHSDistance Runner: Did you see this? :

http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/hip/labral_tear_hip.php

What is a labral tear?
The socket of the hip joint that the thigh bone sits in is called the acetabulum. This is lined by a layer of cartilage called the labrum. The labrum supplies cushioning and support for the hip joint. A tear can occur in the labrum and is also known as a hip labral tear or acetabular labral tear.

Symptoms include:
Pain in the hip or goin.
A clicking or locking of the hip joint.
Stiffness and restricted movment of the hip.
Causes of labral tears
Trauma such as traffic accidents, collisions and bad falls.
Twisting on a hip that has a lot of weight on it.
Repetitive strain on the hip for example in golfers.
Treatment
Treatment usually requires surgery.
If left the injury could degenerate into a worn hip joint.
