I was at baseball practice and running the bases, as I rounded second base I stepped on the bag and felt and heard a popping sound. I immediately fell to the ground in severe pain. I couldn't stand up. I was taken to the ER by ambulance and the X-ray showed no broken bones, but we all know how those wet reads are. I don't think there's anything broken. The ER doctor said I had a clicking or snapping hip syndrome. Can someone please elaborate on this for me please. How long am I expected to be out if that is the case, or even better when will I be able to walk and apply pressure to it again? Also could it be a stress fracture? If so do you feel that I might need surgery? *crosses fingers hoping for a big NO*

Hi nick,
Snapping hip is not normally a painful condition, especially to the extent which you have stated. It is caused by a tendon flicking across the bone at the hip and although may be uncomfortable any pain is gone very quickly.
I would get a 2nd opinion on this. Where is the pain in your hip? What activities cause the pain and is it a sharp pain or an ache?
Have a look at this about labral tears, its a possible!

A labrum tear results from twisting when there is a lot of weight on the leg (as happened in your case) and can cause the hip to either lock, or feel unstable.
Honestly, see someone else coz I would be very surprised if it is snapping hip!
I hope this helps you,
