I wonder if anyone can help?

I am healthy, fit, active male, 24, I have no swelling in my knees, no pain when resting. However whenever i run/jog and then i sharply change direction whichever knee the weight is on feels like it gives way and their is a twinge in the back middle of my knee (feels like its very central). If i run straight it's fine. If i go upstairs the same pain/give way thing happens, whether i go up on the balls of my feet or flat footed.

It's really weird and there is no pain when resting or walking but it is beginning to strongly affect my soccer. It's been happening for about a year and has only got slightly worse.

any help/advice would be much appreciated

Hi,
Obviously its difficult to really tell without seeing you and I would recommend visiting a sports injury clinic or similar for a full assessment.

Is it in both knees? If so its unlikely to be from something like a torn piece of cartilage although thats what the symptoms sound like.

Definately get an assessment as it could be an overuse/muscle imbalance problem in which case you will need a rehabilitation program

just an update...i spoke to a professional last week and he couldn't really understand what is wrong but suggested trying to build muscle around the thigh/upper leg, i think this makes sense as I only do light weights for upper body and press ups/sits ups and have never ever done leg weights or leg lifts...will give that a go!!!

hey,

it sounds like you got yourself a bad set of knees. I'd recommend strength and conditioning programs for yourself as well as joint supplements to ease you into the workouts. Micosamine, for example is one that I know works pretty well if you take it consistently.

Hope this helps!
