I have just recently started working out. After about 5 min into my workout I start getting sharp pains that start in my ankle and go up my calf until my calf muscle is super tight. I end up limping away. Stretching it out after I have started, just causes more pain. I've tried different types of low impact workouts, walking, aerobics, stationary bike and eliptical. Everything causes this pain, I'm at a loss of what to do, I've bought new shoes, insoles, taking a week or two break, heat, ice, stretches. I'm not even sure if it is my ankle or my calf that is causing these pains. Any suggestions??

Hi,

I would recommend visiting a sports massage therapist. A good deep tissue massage will help to loosen the calf muscles.
You must also look for the cause of your tight muscles. Have you had your feet assessed during walking and running? It is a very common problem to have whats called overpronated feet (flat feet). This doesn't usually cause problems until you start to exercise and the lack of support at the foot puts extra stress on the ankle, shin, calf and knee especially.

Have a look at this page about overpronation:
