I fell very hard on my left knee while rollerblading a couple of weeks ago and I now have a sharp pain when I press the top of my knee cap in certain places. When I bend my knee it sometimes has a slight tearing sensation or 'rippling' sensation. I can't kneel on that knee now and there has been little improvement in two weeks. Could this be Patella Plica? Does anyone have any solutions or other thoughts? Thanks. James

patella plica comes around during fetal development, not from falling on your knee. More likely options are bruising, fracture (hairline), and or strain of the quadriceps tendon. Since it's only been a couple of weeks I wouldn't worry about it unless it continues to persist or interferes with your activities. Have you been icing and elevating? Often, people neglect the first aid treatment and wonder why they don't show any improvement. Good luck!

Thank you for your reply...no, there is not much evidence of fetal development in this case. I did apply ibuleve for about a week but I have not done a great deal since. I will try ice. It is now three weeks and though I can funtion normally, if my trousers catch my knee unexpectedely I can get the most searing pain. And still no question of kneeling on that knee. But I will try your suggestions and fingers crossed. Thanks.
