Hi,

About 9 months ago I had what was describes as a Grade 2 tear of my right hamstring. I was sprinting palying in a football match and it just went. I had phyio but wasn't completely satisfied.

Our season then ended and I was doing exams so I stopped the physio, I was back running at 3/4 pace at this stage.

I started palying again warmed up proberly and stretched and I'm having trouble. It was fine when I was running, a little tight but not too bad. I iced it after.

It is extemely sore and tight now. It hurts when you press it. The only thing is I can apply presure on it and it doesn't cramp. Iie pushing against resistance.
It doesn't cramp it is just sore and tight. What do I need to do? I just want to be pain free and able to play! Thanks!

Hi!

Regular deep tissue sports massage in combination with regular stretching (at least twice daily) and maybe some ultrasound treatment is always the best treatment in my opinion.

Have a look here for more info:

Making sure you have good core and pelvic stability and good muscle flexibility throughout the lower body is also a good way of avoiding reoccurring problems

I got a friend who is a physical therapist to carry out deep tissue massage.

When doing it they said it felt like a crackling of the muscle, that there was a crackling sensation when they massaged it.

What is the cause of this? I've never heard of it before, is it normal?

Thanks

Hi,

That sensation is usually scar tissue which I would fully expect to be present after a grade 2 tear.

Continue to have massage, its good that he/she found the scar tissue, it should decrease each time as it gets broken down.
