I've recently bought some proper running shoes and a pair of casual trainers.

I am a size 7.

However, the guy at the running shop said the best fit is there should be a thumbs distance at the end.

I went for my first run, and my left ankle seems to be more tighter (or not as loose as my right ankle) and when i rotate it, i can get a few clicks from it.

Also, the new casual trainers are size 8 as they felt right. Size 7 felt tight.

Could these be contributory factors or am i just getting paranoid and is my ankle issue likely to be caused by my first run for quite some time.

Hiya,

I would give it a bit longer. It could just be coz you're only just starting up again.

Make sure you warm-up and stretch the calfs thoroughly before your run. If you continue to get problems, return to the sports shop and see a different person for some advice on if they are right for you. Did you get video analysis done? This is the best way to see if your running shoes are right for you.

For some good stretching ideas have a look here:

Good luck!
