Orto-pedic Dr. wants to do arthroscoptic surgery on shoulder to repair tear and shave down the bone spur. MRI also showd a mildly Type III acromion present in neutral position without entesophyte. Not sure what that means either. All I know it is painful when I try to reach back and lift my arm up strechted out to my side.
Should I let him do the surgery. How long will I be in a sling. Is this a simple procedure. Will it be okay afterward. Can it heal on it's own.
Please help before I decide what to do.

Hi
I think you should have the surgery. If there is a bone spur (type III acromion relates to the bone spur shape) then it is unlikely to fully recover with conservative treatment.
i'm not sure on immobilisation times however the trend now is accelerated rehabilitation which means they try to get full movement back in the shoulder as soon as possible. Provided you are given a proper rehabilitation program then you should get full use back in your shoulder.

Thanks for the recommendation. I won't be able to do it until the second week in August so I have some time to decide. How big is the tear? (in terms I can understand please) smile.

It was a torn rotator cuff and bone spur which he fixed 2 weeks ago. In sling now and four more weeks. Started therapy 6 days later- twice a week. Already ready to sling this sling away. (smile)
Arm hurts if jarred. Stiff. Other than that, pain now only when trying to loosen it up doing exercises.
