Hi

I've had stiffness around the adductor area and lower abdomen for a while now. The stiffness around the adductor area is more apparent if I'm sat down for a while or first getting up in the morning. The strain in the lower abdomen is more apparent when fully stretching back with arms in the air, sneezing or a full leg swing when powerfully kicking the ball. However this does subside the more I completely rest. Not stretching or anything!

History:
I'm 33, I would say I'm fairly fit... jogging 1-3 hours a week and biking around the same and just recently playing soccer again. I play 2 times a week for around 2-3 each time. I've not played soccer for about 5 years. It seemed to be a normal occurrence for me, if I hadn't played for a while inevitable I would get a groin strain the first or second time of playing. However after this initial strain about a week later everything would be back to normal and I could continue playing without any other related or unrelated problem occurring. Also as a computer artist I sit down in front of a computer all day, not sure if this has any bearing on these problems I'm now experiencing.

It all started around 3 months ago with a simple groin strain while playing soccer.
I left it for about a week and it seem to be just about right so I started playing again. I needed to get so more turf soccer trainers as the one I had were causing my toe nails to go black and subsequently they've fell off.

I bought some predator boots which have cleats instead of studs. I've not wore boots since I was in my later teens early twenties. They seemed OK the first time I wore them but there after that where the problems started. From this point on I started getting a persistent dull pain in the adductor area plus pain around the hip area and pain when I sprint and or sneeze in the lower abdomen area.

After this continued for about a month or so I stopped playing and went to the doctors who examined me for a hernia, this was ruled out and I was referred me to a Physio. After there initial assessment they have put me on an exercise plan to stretch the adductor area, quadriceps and build up stability in the gluteus maximus area. I was also to apply heat pack before and ice pack after.

I was told to try playing again but in normal turf trainers and see how things go. I had a bit pain and stiffness after but nowhere near as much much pain as before. About 3 days later I play again but with the cleat boots this time, if turned out to be a lot worse.

I would say I have just about 100% mobility but I get a bit of pain... its not too bad when I'm fully warmed up don't real feel anything when fully stretching or kicking the ball but if I slow down in the game or stop it becomes stiff and a bit painful to run/walk or even get started again.

But after a day or two continuing the exercise plan and applying heat/cold pack things are back to as normal as I can get them. This, being the stiffness around the adductor area if sat down for a while or first getting up in the morning. The exercise that causes the most pain is squeezing the knees together with an object to give some resistance.

After reading some info on this site and downloading the groin strain guide ebook on this website (I'm a bit disappointed with this download as I found it wasn't a great deal of use to me. It told me things that I already knew or things that that physio told me). I now whished I had subscribed to access other areas of the site instead. Anyway I'm wondering if my problem could be a combination of 2 things:
Inflammation of the adductor muscles and Gilmore's groin.

I will continue with the exercise plan for the near future but I'm a bit concerned that nothing is happening... I just dont seem to be making any progress. Seems to be if I did completely nothing at all I would get better but I think it would just mask the groin problem. As soon as I started to play again the problem would re-occur.

What do you think?

Any help/guidance will be very much appreciated!

Also is Groin Strain just used as a general term and are Inflammation of the adductor muscles & Gilmore's groin more specific?

Thanks
