I'll give you the full story.

Around 18 months ago I went over on my ankle playing football which left me unable to walk for a few days, I then we through around 3 months of ultrasound/physio. I then started playing again but it was never right and had a bad tackle on the same ankle leaving me back at square one.

I decided to go see a specialist and he thought I had a chronic tear of my ATFL and recommended I get an MRI. So I've had an Xray and an MRI scan which showed no structural damage but nerve damage and they said I've got to go through more physio.

So for the past 3 or so months I've done the heel raises, stretching, work with resistant bands and the old alphabet writing with my toe. I've done this every day but theres no sign of improvement.

Is there anything more exercises I should be doing? I've heard getting a sports massage can help with nerve damage, is this true?

I really just want to get back playing again if possible.

any help would be greatfully appreciated

Thanks

Massage may well help and is definately worth a try. Make sure you visit someone who is reputable and explain the injury in detail. They should do massage to the calf and shin, as well as friction massage to the ligaments surrounding the ankle to break down any scar tissue and stimulate healing.

Has there been no improvememnt at all over the three months? What can you do now pain free and what aggravates it?

Hi thanks for the reply.

I can walk without pain ect.

If I was to run or participate in any sport I get the feeling that the ligament would go at anytime.

So contact sport and running aggravates it

Also its cracking a lot which it never used to before I got the injury.
