I pulled my hamstring in my right leg on July 30th. I was at a soccer tournament and i was playing and felt a sharp pain/pull at the end of the game. I had soreness afterwards, but i had a long ride home. After the tournament we had a break for about a week. I went to go to another game after the week break of no activity, and felt fine until i started running/kicking the ball and other fast/hard movements. I told my coach to take me out of that game because i was in pain. I ended up taking a break from soccer for about 2 weeks. Then high school captains practices started, and i attempted to go at those. That is when i knew i had pulled my hamstring. I went to 4-5 captains practices and took it easy, but still felt a sharp pain in the back of my leg when doing fast/hard movements. Well now i have been going to Physical therapy for 3 weeks, and chiropractor for 2 weeks. I have been to PT a total of 6 times, and chiropractor 3 times. At PT i do strengthing exercises, ice/heat with stim, ultrasound, massage, stretching, and at chiropractor involves stretching, and heat and stim, and body alignment. I am in a rush to play high school soccer, since i am a starter and am needed. The season officially starts this friday am and i frantically trying to get better. Last friday was my first attempt after a little over 3 weeks break, and i was doing fine until i had to reach for a trap and i felt it, after that i felt it in most movements, and i sat out and it was very sore. My coach is getting angry and i need to come back asap since i really dont want to miss any high school games, and i want to start.
I forgot to add the chiropractor said i might have tendonitis, and PT thinks i have a pulled hamstring, i could have both, and would really like to know whats going on.
Please help.
ask any questions about pains, and what i am doing. Thanks.

Hi,
You are doing all the right things, whether it is a strain or tendonitis. If the pain is more central then it is definately a strain. If the pain is at the top or bottom of the hamstring then consider tendonitis.
The only other thing I can suggest is to check the pain is not being radiated from elsewhere. Most commonly an impingement to the sciatic nerve from a tight muscle in the butt called piriformis. Have a look here:
http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/back/buttocks/piriformis.htm
This muscle can impinge on the nerve and send pain down the leg into the hamstrings, causing them to tighten up too. This is common if you have a leg length discrepancy or if you have weak hip abductors etc. Get your PT to check this out just to be on the safe side.
Good luck!

You seem to be doing all the right stuff with your PT and chiro. I think you'll just have to keep this up and let time do the rest!

well it turns out my hamstring is better, but now i have another problem.....my hamstring is still sore but no pains while playing. I have a new pain in my upper front thigh. It hurts just to lift my leg... walking and jogging it fine, sprinting and shooting hurt, even passing or trying to quick movements hurt. Getting in and out of the car and bed hurt. In school it hurts my thigh to put my leg on the book holder under the desk in front of me, which is only a couple inches off the group. Straightening my leg hurts a bit sometimes, but lifting then straightening hurts. While my leg is straight it is much easier and less pain to lift. I stretching all the muscles and stretches i know and felt no soreness or pulls except slight soreness in my recent pulled hamstring. I don't know if this will help but i pulled my groin last summer, which i don't think has anything to do with it. I also broke my femur in my right leg when i was around 5 severely, i had a book cubby fall on me. I am hoping this isnt a femur stress fracture. Basically it's a very sharp pain, that doesn't let me use my right leg to get into the car as i usually do, i have to use my left first and lift. As well as my bed. It hurts to play soccer, pain hurts when juggling ball on right foot/thigh, shooting, passing, lunging, sprinting, tackling, and any other movements involving quickness and/or strength.
