shin creaking

I started having lower leg pain a week ago which localized in the shin. It hasn't gotten much better, with rest it is a dull ache, the strange thing is that it has a creaking, sweeking and rubing sound and feel to it. Had an xray and dr said no stress fracture. Anyone ever have this and have any idea what it could be? Insisted on seeing Dr again today because I don't want to do more damage than there may be be.
