After an injury 7 weeks ago (knocked over in the playground) my son has finally been diagnosed with an ACL tear - originally they believed it was just a chip from the patela - but apparently this has now healed. He has been in pain 24hrs a day despite painkillers and is unable to go to school, or anywhere for that matter.
Can anyone suggest what treatment should now be recomended for him as I am due to take him back to the consultant this week. I have read lots (and lots) and some seem to think that physio is best and some prefer surgery to repair the tear. I am concious that we have already waited 7 weeks (which for a nine year old is an eternity to be off his feet), so I really want something that will get him up and about asap but also considering his age will prevent further damage/risk later on - his knees have still got a lot of living to do.
Any comments would be gratefully recieved.
