Default 16 yr. old w L3 fracture in back from football injury

2 weeks ago our grandson was tackled in football causing an L3 level fracture of the vertebrae. He spent a night and day in the hospital. He's 6"5 and 250 lbs. and has 2 years left to play football. He's out for the year of course. That's his main concern. Ours is his healing process. Will he be able to play again? Only he and his doctor know for sure. He's wearing a back brace (3 mos. or more) and taking physical therapy. Anyone here know of this type of injury on a teen and the prognosis and follow up care and treatment? I'd like to know anyone's experience that cares to share it. thanks.

Smile Grandson is doing very well!

I'm sorry to hear about your son. My 'great' grandson, age 16 has recovered completely it would seem. He's lifting weights again and plans to play football next season. He wore a back brace for a time and had to take it easy for a few weeks but was back doing most anything very soon. Actually sooner than we felt he should but the doctor ok's what he was doing. He did recommend physical therapy but do to not having insurance his Mom and Dad weren't able to afford it so they just got the information on how to help him at home.
I hope all goes well with your son.

Thumbs up Just has begun lifting again

    Hi,
He's just begun lifting again. He wanted to wrestle again but had another mishap--broke his hand!! So, had to drop out of that too. No sports until next year. Best of luck to your son.
