Thread: Shoulder and Lower back pain

Default Shoulder and Lower back pain

My left shoulder and left side of my lower back have been a problem for about two years. I am very competitive in sports, and tumble (flips and whatnot) very often. I have been to multiple doctors over the last couple years and they just put me on pain medication. The last couple of months, I haven't been able to get through my days effectively. The pain wakes me up in the middle of the night. It almost feels like a squeezing that makes it hard to breathe. I went to the doctor again last week, and told her I didn't want any more medicine, just to know whats wrong. She believed that I had a bulged disc and sent me for xrays...along with more anti inflammatory medicine. She told me there was nothing wrong. When this first started happening I had seen a chiropractor. Now that the pain has worsened, and my doctor "can't" help me I don't know where to turn.

    Hi
Sorry to hear of your problem.
What did the Chiropractor do/say? Was this any help?
That was my initial thought - to get a chiropractor or osteopath assessment. From what you have said I would guess its all related to your spine - maybe a misalignment or postural problem?
Was there an incident/accident involved when the problem first started or did it come on gradually?

The pain did come gradually there was no specific injury. I went to the chiropractor and he said "it was bad"...what was bad he didn't say. But said I should be good to go. It helped for a few weeks but is now right back to where it was. The awful pain that pulls and squeezes with even the slightest movement. I'm not a small girl and i know back pain can be related to weight plus I am a tumbler which isn't easy on your body to begin with. Also I had been tumbling on a spring or gymnastics floor for 10years and this year switched to a hard mat (sometimes concrete) and figure that was why it suddenly got so bad. The chiropractor helps temporarily but it's not fixing what's wrong which no one can seem to find out. It's really starting to interfere with my training and I'm all out of ideas. Would a cortisone shot mask the pain enough for me to train? Would it help in my situation?

    Hi
Generally I don't recommend cortisone injections and I don't think that you would be given one for this kind of problem.
I think you should be combining the chiropractic treatment with a rehabilitation exercise program and maybe some deep tissue massage to help correct any problems. Try to find out from the chiro on your next visit what exactly the problem is and what kind of exercises you can do. If they can't recommend any exercises, at least find out what they think the problem is and ask a well qualified fitness trainer.

I feel a normal pain in my back during office work, but it’s continues and increasing day by day, should I consult some physician or it’s just because of extra work load.

    Hi umyeahitsbritt,
Did you have any surgery in the past and do you remember what will be the cause of this pain?
I will advice you to consult some orthopedic as soon as possible before the pain goes worst.

I can understand how worse it is to handle this pain. You should take complete rest and light exercises.

These days lower back pain is a common problem in people. Specially for those who are working continuously on table and chair. I think you should start with some light exercise.
