    Default Strained lower back muscle

I guess its been over a year since I hurt my back while working out. what happen is I bent down to get a weight and when I did i twisted at the same time. I believe I strained the left spiane erector. I gues its been a couple of weeks since I find this website and started doing stretches and It is feeling a whole lot better. But every time it gets to feeling better I will try to play basketball or something strenous and it starts hurting again then after a couple days soreness will go away.

The pain you are feeling may well be muscular, however usually these things heal relatively quickly.

So either, it is muscle but for some reason it has not healed properly, or, it is not muscle.

If you feel the muscles are tight in the area, this can be a sign of injury to other structures as the muscles tighten up to protect the injury. There are many things this could be. e.g. facet joint pain, ligament sprain etc.

My advice is to visit a professional. Back injuries can be very complex and it is important to maintain the health of your back, as persistant problems can be extremely disabling and frustrating.

    Smile Erector Spinae muscle strain

    Hi Rob, Heidi, everyone,

The best things to do in this situation are to see a chiropractor or physiotherapist and at the very least a massage therapist. As you've been told, the spasm of the muscles is a protective mechanism to protect the joints (facet's in the spine or hinge -like joints) from damage. Unfortunately this is problematic because if the muscles spasm for too long the joints become dysfunctional and "stuck". They do not move and the muscle firing patterns that are usually smooth and fluent become rigid and cog-wheel-like. This is why when you play basketball or go back to activity it flares up the problem in your back again.

In-order to prevent further degenerative changes in the joint complex of your back you must seriously consider the following.
    A. Work on specific "core stabilisers", this means abdominal and lowe back. The fit-ball or gym-ball is best for this and extremely versatile for a whole host of rehab mobilisation, stretching and strengthening exercise.

Please contact me for any help on this matter.

Well the past couple of weeks the pain has almost gone (it hurts when i bend down a certain way to get something) so every day I try to do back stretches and sitting hamstring and standing quad stretches also some days I do more than others but here in the past couple of days I had slacked of to see if it would help pain go away faster well today at school walking at different times it would hurt but not all the time so stupid me Ik I played basketball anyways (about 4:30) and that made it hurt even worse to where its a tender sore feeling so when I got home I laid on a ice pack (8:30) and took 2 extra strength pain relievers so I know I brought the pain on myself by playing and its not going to get better untill I stop all strenous activity! but I was wadering if anyone would still give me some different strectches or some other advice
thank you for all the help

If you feel that the muscles are hard in the area, this may be a sign of damage to other structures such as muscles contract to protect the injury. Many things could be. For example, pain in the facet joints,

How to relax you muscle, when having such conditions and you don’t have any proper access to a physician. I usually have such problems while traveling.
