Default A bit of heavy lifting!

As a DJ i have done a lot of bending by head forward. combined with some heavy lifting cold showers and a bad bed - this all led to an episode which put me in hospital for a week.

we thought it was a lot worse at first but it turned out to be my muscles contracting to protect my spine. AGONY

since then its not even threatening to go away. ive tried chiropracters, osteopaths and even accupuncture, and they all help but only temporarily

the pain is predominantly in my neck .shoulder and across my whole upper back.

    Hello,

You didn't say if you're continuing your work, and carrying on with the lifting? If you are then you probably need to do some manual handling training by the sounds of it! You should never be lifting with your head forwards - no matter what! It puts immense strain on the back, and after a while it will start to complain!

Do you have a rehab plan with exercises to do? If not I suggest you get to see a therapist - whether it be physio, sports therapist, osteo, chiro, etc - and get a programme to help you develop your core stability and support your back.

Most important of all you need to take this seriously and make some lifestyle adjustments if you haven't already. Your work may come and go, but you're stuck with this body unfortunately, so perhaps it's time to give it some TLC!

    Ruth

    Thank you.

I have stopped with the heavy stuff, but my job means i stand and bend forward a lot.

The osteopath has given me simple exercises to perform, but it always seems to niggle and feels like it could go at any minute.

    Hello again,

You didn't mention if you have any sporting hobbies, however you may want to consider whether attending a pilates class may help with your problems?

It might be worth asking your current therapist what their opinion is, and whether they can recommend an instructor who is able to deal with patients such as yourself with a history of back problems.

I hope this is of some help!
