Sciatic Nerve Treatment
Sciatic pain occurs in the lower back and branches out down one or both legs. The pain may be intense and continuous.
As per Doctors, sciatica is neuralgia or radiating referred to pain. Generally, the pain is painful, dull, or similar to an electric shock.
Why sciatic pain occurs?
Sciatic pain is said to be a symptom of compression of the sciatic nerve and not a disorder. The main causes or reasons why sciatic pain occurs are:
- Lumbar Spine vertebra partial dislocation
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Sitting on one’s back pocket
- Problem of posture
Sometimes the causes of sciatica pain are diabetes, severe constipation, and pregnancy, childbirth, infections and tumors which are non-spinal conditions.
Piriformis syndrome is the same as sciatica as it also causes pain. Piriformis muscle in the lower spinal area and joins the thigh. It is essential for the rotation of the hips. Whilst the muscle shortens or spasms owing to hip arthritis, injury and difference in length of leg, it pinches the sciatic nerve. Therefore the pinched nerve causes pain, numbness and tingling in the buttocks along the path of the sciatic nerve.
Conventional sciatic nerve treatment involves symptomatic pain relief with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and/or muscle relaxants. The pinched nerve is the cause of the pain and prescriptions cannot correct that. Additionally, surgery can lead to irretrievable changes in disc or bones. Moreover, another problem presented by the sciatica pain is the fact that it gets worse with bed rest.
Chiropractic manipulations have an important role in alternative treatment modalities. Even the conventional sciatic pain treatment, stretching exercises, massage, and avoidance of activities that add to the pain are the initial step.
The Treatment of Chiropractor on Sciatic Pain
Chiropractic treatment of the pinched sciatic pain is based on a scientific principle. This scientific principle is that the cause of pain is the restricted movements of spines caused by reduced performance and functionality. The treatment is a drug free-non invasive implying that there is no risk of side effects.
Varieties of methods were used by the Chiropractor for treating Sciatica pain. The most universal and effectual method among them is known as Spinal manipulations of the subluxations that have occurred in the patient’s body. To restore the position of the misaligned vertebrae in the spinal column, the spinal manipulation involves the application of gentle and minimal pressure, or fast high velocity force.
Likewise, heat from ultrasound as well as cold therapy is used by a chiropractor. Cold Therapy is known to be effective in reducing an inflammation and pain relief. Heat produced from gentle sound waves from an ultrasound boosts circulation and reduces the muscle spasms.
It is essential that you acquire chiropractic care from a competent chiropractor. Chiropractic doctors undergo training in colleges whereas techniques of treating joints’ partial dislocation or organs are learned.
