Accessory Nerve Damage
Not sure if this is the right place as its not really a sport injury but it seems a good place to start have searched the forums but came up with no matches so here goes.. In Aug 2009 i had surgery to remove a lump (infected tissue) from the left side of my neck which was affecting my swallowing and potentially my airflow, surgery was on the thursday was discharged on the sunday and monday I realised i had no strength in my left arm and limited movement, was probably on too many pain killers at this point to notice the pain... anyway ff to now and after an MRI and a second nerve conduction test it was discovered that the spinal accessory nerve is damaged and this happened during surgery too much has gone on since surgery and now including many many months of PT and the pain and movement are about the same if not worse. My main issues are scapular winging and trapezius palsy My question is is there anybody out there with experience of this problem and details of how they were treated and the outcome I am currently waiting to see the consultant and as I am in the UK and under our NHS that seems to be when they can fir you in and not when you want to go so may have to wait a few more weeks yet but am beside myself worrying about the outcome especially with the delay in diagnosis am so worried that the only option now is going to be either put up with the pain and restricted movement or have the joint frozen I'm 47 and already feel like this has taken away over 2 yrs of my life and am looking for something positive to cling too
<any thanks Fran
