Default pain in top of shoulder diagnosis

    Hi,
I hurt my shoulder towards the end of the rugby season (about 3months ago) the pain wasn't bad enough to stop me playing so I assumed it was just something minor ( I don't even know the event that caused it to become sore). However I still have the pain now even though I have rested it for 3 months. I have managed to isolate the movement that causes the pain and that is if I lie face down on the ground with my arm stretched out above my head then push the palm of my hand into the ground I get a sharp pain in the top of my shoulder. Fortunately I don't require the use of this movement very often however I would like to know what is causing the pain so I can try and heal it. If anyone could diagnose what is causing this pain or what I can do to help repair it it would be greatly appreciated

Pain in the top of the shoulder, especially in rugby players is most commonly coming from the AC joint, where the collarbone meets the Acromion process (a bony protrusion from the shoulder blade).
Feel along the length of your collarbone until you get to the top of the shoulder. Is there is tenderness there?

    hi
    thanks for your reply
No it's not tender to touch. I also just tried lying on my back with my arms outstretched above my head and tried pushing down into the ground with the back of my hand which also hurt the top of my shoulder. the pain is around where the clavicle goes into the shoulder joint but I find it hard to pinpoint the exact location in the joint that is causing the pain.
