    Default Rugby Related Shoulder Injury

    Hello,
I play rugby for my university and during our 2009 rugby season I injured my shoulder. I play front row, hooker to be precise and I found that the injury originated from scrumming. Essentially it was my right trapezius that hurt and I had some restriction in movement. Now when it happened it was excruciating, and while I did get physiotherapy for it during the season I had to continue playing to finish the season. My physiotherapist had diagnosed it as some type of tendinitis. Is this accurate?

During the off season I took a good deal of time off from weightlifting and when I returned I found the only range of movement that gave me any semblance of grief was the bench press, so I stayed away from the bench press and focused on other upper body areas. My main exercises for my upper body include a military press, front and back shrug, various rowing motions, and flyes. None of these irritate my shoulder.

Now I just finished another season, again in the front row, and I did not have an issue with it for the season, i.e I never noticed any pain during games, with an exception being our final game where my shoulder hurt in a similar way to how it did when it was first injured, but not as bad. I subsequently iced and heated my shoulder after the game and in two days it had returned to how it had been before the final game.

I'm trying to figure out what muscle has been injured and from there try to deduce what remedy I can undertake to fix it. For the sake of a summary

    Symptoms
    Occasional pain in right shoulder
Pain during a bench press, but an ability to preform dumbell presses and push ups.
Right trap is noticeably smaller than left trap
Some restriction in flexibility of right arm (If I were to put both my hands behind my back and see how high up on my back I can reach my left arm can go noticeably higher than my right)
When I my head to the right, as if looking over my shoulder, I feel stiffness and pain at the end of the motion.

I appreciate any feedback, if there is any more information I have omitted I would be happy to provide it.
