Default shoulder pain - softball injury

I've looked through the descriptions of shoulder injuries and am amazed the the large number of potential injuries I might be dealing with. If anybody with some level of expertise on this subject might be able to provide some insight it would be greatly appreciated.

On Monday, I was playing outfield and running in and to the right on a slicing fly ball. I dove trying to make a backhanded catch with my left arm outstretched, and landed with all my weight right on the joint of my left shoulder. The impact was immediately felt in my shoulder with a sharp and a throbbing pain. In addition my head snapped forward on the impact and I could feel it a little bit in my neck too. The pain is primarily on top of my shoulder on the inward part of the shoulder towards where it connects with the neck.

I iced my shoulder the first night, and noticed that the shoulder got extremely tight after a period of inactivity. After sitting around for a few hours, it became painful to push off on my shoulder to get out of my seat. Same thing when I woke up in the morning. However there is no pain when I am just sitting still. If I go out of my way to slowly move my arm around, I feel slight pain but generally am able to get a full range of motion, although it feels weak. If I go out of my way to loosen it up like that, the pain eventually diminishes a little bit.

Now here's where my own stupidity comes in. There was another game Wednesday night and I decided to give it a try. I had done a couple of short practice swings with minimal pain. If I swing the bat downward like a golf club, it hardly hurts at all, but if I swing horizontally the way I'm supposed to, there is pain on the follow through. I came up for my first at bat planning on swinging lightly, but ended up putting in a harder swing than I wanted to, and the pain was immense on the follow through. Not during the swing at all, but on the back end of the swing where my arm reaches towards behind my back. I felt a pop and an extreme amount of pain on top of my shoulder and even up into the lower left part of my neck. I took myself out of the game at this point. Within about 20 minutes, it was back to feeling the way it had felt before.

Part of me feels like this is an injury that will eventually go away with rest, but I'm also concerned it could possibly be something more serious. If anybody with expertise on the subject is able to figure out exactly what I'm dealing with here, please let me know. I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Just wondering if you were able to diagnose this issue? I am suffering from the same thing.

    Hi
Could be numerous things. AC joint injury, rotator cuff injury, labrum injury or a combination from a fall onto the shoulder.
Visit a sports injury specialist to get it looked at!
