    Default Shoulder Pain When Running

I have been getting a sharp pain, in a very precise position beneath my left shoulder blade. The pain occurs when I run and only after about 10 mins, but it grows to the point I have to stop. The pain goes almost immediately after I stop running.

I have no history of an injury in this shoulder.

Can anyone suggest what this might be?

Default Abdominal spasm felt in shoulder - running

    Hi,

If you are otherwise fit and well, you may well find your shoulder pain is referred pain from the abdominal area where smooth or skeletal muscle is in spasm due to exertion - particulalry because you say the pain goes immediately on running cessation.

After 10 minutes running is when you will start to feel the exertion and spasm in abdomen 'stitch' diaphragm or shoulder is common in runners who:

    - run too soon after eating

    - are dehydrated and therefore slightly constipated (exercise stimulates movement through bowel)

    - are physically tired and are hunched forward cramping the diaphragm restricting airflow into the lungs rather than the chest/torso being upright and open

    - are tense in their abdominal area - life stress tends to be held in solar plexus area - massage gently in clockwise direction and become aware of stress held here

    - new or returning to running and you are learning how to breathe efficiently and breathe in the top of your lungs rather than deeply in to the abdomen,

    - running too fast too soon - do a decent warm-up, stretch the whole body including forward leaning and backward bends and massage to stretch the abdominal muscles, build the pace up slowly and listen and respond to your body's needs.

    - If you have gastric irritation or pain see your GP.

    - Read up on some of the runners sites for advice.

If it is the same pain that I get in my shoulder than it is very painful but like you said goes away quickly after running.... You need to relax your shoulders the one may just be a little tighter than the other. I dont think that it is anything serious, but if it is really bad go to the doctors
