    Default Boxing injury?

Last friday I was sparring. Over the course of 7-8 rounds I recieved several hard blows to the head, mainly around the temples. I recovered very quickly but at the end of the last round I took a blow that blew my socks off. I instantly had a severe head ache which was, and still is accompanied by occasional high pitched noises in my head. I became very emotional and had to go home. 6 days on the headache is still severe and the next day after this incident my glutes (the ones around the sides) are tense and I get a sharp pain in this area when I lean forward as well as my coccyx. The Coccyx has gradually become more and more painful, although I dont know if this is related to the boxing as I didnt go down on my arse. I went to A+E today and was told that the head injury is nothing to worry about, and that I probably have a fractured coccyx? Which is strange as I havent got a clue how it happened?

If anyone could shed any light on my situation I would be most grateful as I am a trainaholic and am fighting in 3 weeks time and need to be fit! Many thanks :-)

    Hi

I think this is beyond the scope of this forum! Head injuries should always be treated with the greatest respect and if you are at all worried I can only recommend you seek a second opinion.

As for the coccyx, if you are sure you have not fallen on it or that there has been no trauma, then it is unlikely that it is fractured. Rest it as much as possible, and if still no improvement after another week, return to the Doctor!

Thanks for your reply Heidi. Just to let you know, I went to GP yesterday as I was in so much pain in head/back. He diagnosed concussion and whiplash, and said that the tailbone injury is related to the head injury. He said there is some inflammation and prescribed me diclofenac and Co-dydramol, although I only took 2 doses of the latter due to the effect it has on my concentration! So I will rest as much as possible and reassess in a weeks time wether or not to fight in 3 weeks. Thanks again for the reply!
