    Default cracked rib

I cracked a rib 2 weeks ago. It has eased a lot and I don't need painkillers or anything now. Although doctors said it takes 4 weeks to heel, apart from the odd twinge, I feel reasonably good. I quite fancy going for a run - but don't want to put my recovery back by trying something too early.

Anyone got any ideas whether it's likely to be safe to exercise at this early stage?

    Thanks,

    David

Only attempt to go running when you can take full, deep breaths with no pain at all. And then start off with a short, gentle jog just to test the water. Then leave it 2-3 days to make sure there are no delayed symptoms before trying again and gradually increasing distance/speed.

Was crack actually diagnosed by a x-ray? Most fractures due heal 4-6 weeks and it sounds as if your recovering without any concerns. often a rib wrap can be purchased at CVS/Walgreens to stabilize the area. Just a thought if you are able to run on a treadmill or eliptical machine it will lessen the amount compression exerted up to your thoracic(rib) area.

In 2006 I broke 2 ribs and the rip wrap was such a lifesaver! I got one from my doctor, but I guess CVS carries them. I would take it easy, wait till your doctor releases you for exercise. Quick Recovery!
