    Default Hamstring Pull/Tear

    Hi all,

    First time poster here.

I pulled my hamstring yesterday evening playing tag rugby. It happened while I was in full stride.

From the Sports Injuries Section I've self-diagnosed it as a Grade 2 mainly because I can walk without aids but it's quite uncomfortable to do so.

I preformed RICE therapy about an hour after it happened and there is not too much swelling around the area that I can see. Pressure on the area or flexing of the knee causes a good bit of pain.

I woke this morning and as expected I'm in considerable discomfort with it - as much as last night.

So I'm wondering is there anything I can be doing now to aid my recovery? Should I continue RICE or keep a compression bandage on it or anything like that?

    Thanks,
    John.

    Hi

Yes keep icing as often as you can, 15 minutes at a time for today and tomorrow if possible. Also a compression bandage is definately a good idea.

Other than that, rest as much as possible and sit with the leg elevated.

In a couple of days, try to gently stretch the hamstring - don't if its painful though.
