    Default Hurt finger

    Hi

I hurt my finger playing netball about 7 weeks ago. I carried on playing on it until Id finished the match. I did not put ice on it immediately, but some hours later. The next day it had ballooned and bruising was highly visable around the middle joint. It stayed very black and blue and swollen for 2 weeks. I sometimes strapped it but also kept moving it. The swelling gradually went down, there is still considerable swelling on the joint now and I definitely can not fit rings on it as I can the other hand. When my hands get cold, said finger becomes numb and turns white for quite a while. When I bend it I can feel something moving in the top of the joint. And I can not bend it flat into a fist, the finger sticks up and will not bend as far as the others. My grip is not very tight on things (eg cups!) and I have hardly any strength in it to lift things.

I would like to know is it ever going to get better , if so when?, and why does it go numb and white in the cold?
I still play netball on it and have had no further knocks to it.

    Thanks

    Hi
The most common injury to this joint in the finger is a ligament sprain:

This does possibly sound like what has happened with your finger. Get someone to look at it for you though, just to double check. There may even be a small fracture, so I would at least visit your Doctor.

Well don't worry and keep doing your work and don't move it more and more and keep your finger in rest position and just concentrate on little bit moving and do cover it and also do some stretching after one week.
