Two months ago I was playing basketball and someone came down on my left achilles tendon (at least I think they did). I felt some sharp pain and then no bounce out of that leg. I played for a little while longer, but still not being able to get any bounce. I iced and limped for a while. A month later I hyper extended that calf doing yard work. That hurt extremely bad, but actually gave me more flexibility. Still no bounce in that leg. I finally went to my podiatrist and had him examine me. He suspected a partial tear and scheduled me for an mri. Got the MRI and it is indeed a partial rupture with extensive tearing. He has put me in an immobilizing boot and crutches. He hopes that this will give the tendon time to reconnect at the tear and heal. The very strange part about this all, is that I have not been experiencing any pain. All through, no pain. No bounce at all in that leg/foot and just a little swelling. How can I have this major injury and not be experiencing major pain? Any thoughts? Any encouragement? I hate these crutches.
