serious problem right side back, leg,k shoulder
Hi, I am new to this forum (26 year old male 6'2" 187#). This will be a rather long post as I have been having major issues for the past 7 months. I have had an ongoing lower back issue on my right side resulting from a hamstring tear of the bicep femoris muscle and tendon as well as something in my right buttock playing football 4 years ago that has affected my gait. Basically it is si joint hyper-mobility. I will start by saying that I do a ton of musky fishing. For those who do not know what that is, basically it involves casting lures weighing up to a pound with an 8 ft rod for 8-10 hours at a time over my right shoulder. My extreme symptoms started around February when we experienced a snow storm of about six inches one night. The previous night I had been doing some intense upper back training. I was shoveling the snow when I suddenly felt a pop with intense pain near the bottom of my right shoulder blade towards the spine. My arm kinda gave out while holding a shovel full of snow and then I tweaked my lower back/sacrum bad which I began to collapse and then my knee popped near the IT band connection. I was able to get back up, suck it up, and finished shoveling (stupid) and went to go to bed. While laying down, my bicep began to spasm making my forearm jump about 6 inches off the bed. When I woke up the next day I had a jelly like cyst feeling thing in the area I felt the pop about the size a tennis ball cut in half. This is the 4th time I tweaked this area of my lower back and leg so I was not worried at the time. I had an extremely sharp pain the shoulder blade area if I tried to reach over my shoulder (ex. reaching in a cabinet) and it felt as if my arm was hanging limp and forward. In Wisconsin we are blessed with great weather which decided to dump 18 more inches of snow the next day, which I shoveled in extreme pain. I then called to make a doctor appointment. The nurse prac. did an evaluation for a rotater cuff injury which was ok. She felt the lump on my shoulder and decided I needed muscle relaxers and 3 days rest and a follow up in two weeks. Which I did. I returned to work full duty (machinist) and consistently got worse. I was experiencing acute neck pain, shoulder blade to spine pain, and bicep tendon pain along with the lower back/hip/hamstring/IT band pain all on the right side. After two weeks, I went back to see the doctor. I told him what was going on and he asked what do you want to address today the leg or shoulder. I decided the leg since it was a repeat injury. He ordered me to p/t. The p/t was an @ss who spent 10 min evaluating and did not look at my shoulder because there was no order to. He sent me home with hamstring stretrches to do. I did the one where you lay on the floor and putt you foot on the wall and straighten the leg. After 10 secs I felt an awful burning in my bicep femoris tendon near the tibia attachment. The next time I went to p/t I was in extreme pain. I scheduled an appointment to address the shoulder issue with the doctor and he just took x-rays and ordered p/t and gave me vicodin. I went to p/t and the guy did no eval on the shoulder and categorized it as upper back pain, hooked me up to electric stim and walked out of the room. The thing felt way to intense and was super painful. I yelled to get someone in the room. After five minutes they came. I felt like I had been hit by a truck and decided not to go back because everything he had me do made things worse. I went back to the doctor and he sent me to a pain manager who prescribed more pills and rest. I took the pills and passed out while going to the bathroom and hit my head which injured my lower neck.
All that crap is how I was injured. Those events happened over the course of 1.5 months. I spent 2.5 months off work and returned to work in an office.
I have gotten quite a bit better, but have extreme atrophy in my entire trap on the right side and a semi winged scapula. The left side is consistently too tight and the right side is weak from neck to hip. My hamstring is atrophied on the right with a limp bicep femoris tendon. The muscle is nearly useless and I get extreme pain if I try to stretch it. My upper back, shoulders, right knee and si joint crack, pop, and thunk all day long. MRI of my right shoulder revealed a SLAP tear. MRI of lumbar spine revealed slight degeneration of a few discs and loss of lordosis. MRI of neck revealed small cyst on left side. MRI of hip revealed small cyst on left side. EMG showed nothing wrong.
New doc says it must be anxiety. This is not true. I have tried p/t for 4 months, accupuncture for 5 months, 3 message sessions, a few prolotherapy sessions to si joint on right (have helped a little but very expensive), chiropractic adjustments, a hundred different vitamins/ supplements, and nothing seems to help much. I am in constant pain no matter what and all I get from the doctors is bunch of pills that don't fix jack. Blood tests for lyme and rheumatism have been done, negative. I think the real problem is torn lower to middle trap and rhomboid and tons scar tissue in hamstring. I don't know what to do anymore. I've hit a plateau the past two months and dread living life like this forever. I know this has been long, but if anyone knows anyone who works within a hundred miles of Milwaukee, WI that is very good with crap like this or has any suggestions please advise. Thanks, JP.
