Default Torn scaphoid ligament in wrist?

I hurt my wrist three weeks ago and just went to the doctor and I have a suspected scaphoid tear and so he scheduled me an MRI. If you can tell me how to be for sure it is torn and if you for sure have to have surgery because I am a musician and really need my wrist. Thanks!

The scaphoid is a bone so it can't be 'torn'. It can be fractured though. Only the MRI will tell what damage hsa been done and if surgery is necessary. If the Scaphoid is fractured then a long period of immobilisation is the usual treatment, although non-union means that many cases do end in surgery.

I didn't mean the bone, I meant the scaphoid ligament.

    Hi
I don't think ligament tears in the wrist usually require surgery, especially if it is one ligament. Multiple ligament tears may as one or more bones could dislocate. Only the MRI scan will make it clear how much damage and to what structures, so it's best to wait for that and then an informed decision can be made.
