    Thumbs down extensor tendonitis

I'm a runner and have developed extensor tendonitis in my right foot. Have rested for 2 weeks but still haveing some pain. Also still some grating on moving though not as bad now. This has never happened before.
Am using ice and NSAIDS. How long is this likely to take to heal? Would I benefit from insoles/strapping etc. Have half marathon in oct so desparate!

    Hi,

You are definately doing all the right things to help your injury. The only additional thing would be to start stretching all of the muscles in the lower leg, so calf, shin and peroneal muscles. If you need some ideas, check out this page:

The use of insoles is unlikely to help, unless the cause of your injury is poor foot biomechanics, ie.e overpronation/supination.

As for a time scale is is difficult to really say, only you will know when it feels ready to start running again. When you do start, build-up slowly. I think your participation in the half-marathon is going to be dependant on how much training you had put in before the injury.
