    Unhappy foot pain :(

Hi. I recently bought a new pair of softball cleats and they were about a 1/2 size too big. After wearing them for one day, I got home and my foot was really sore and the next day there was a knot and a decent sized bruise. I am a runner so I decided I would take a few days off and let my foot heal. However, my foot just kept getting worse and it went from a bruise to really bad pains all throughout my foot. I went to the doctor and he said the x-ray looked fine and he didn't think it was a stress fracture. I know it isn't fine though. It hurts to run and when I bend my toes up, there is a grinding feeling. I know it isn't my bones and I am pretty sure it is my tendons. I was diagnosed with tendonitis in the same foot last summer, too. I just don't know what to do to make it better because it has been over a week and it hasn't gotten better. Also, what is weird is that when I was diagnosed with tendonitis in the summer, it was an overuse injury from running. But now, from my cleats? This just doesnt make sense that a pair of cleats could cause all of this pain. Could anyone help me? =(

    Hi!

I need a bit more information. Where was the original pain (which side of the foot/high/low etc).

Have you done any of your own treatment? i.e. ice/heat/painkillers
If it is tendon (which is possible, maybe due to repeated friction over the site of the tendon?) it is probably inflamed therefore you should be icing it regularly (every 3-4 hours, 15 mins) and seeing someone who can prescribe some anti-inflammatories and use ultrasound on it.

Following that stretching, massage and strengthening.

    Hi angelabhhs,

Don't ever underestimated the power of footwear in contribution to injuries. Just think about high heel, narrow toebox fashion shoes. I can't tell how many bunions and pain in the 1st toe i've seen from them.

Anyway, like Heidi said, we need a bit more information to the injury itself. Do you recall any trauma to the sore area, e.g. smashed by bats, hit by the ball? sprained?

Where is this bruise? Where is it hurting exactly (top of the foot? bottom of the foot? toes?) what's youre trainning routine like? What other type of shoes do you also wear? what other medical conditions might you have?

It'll be good to know these before we can proceed further.

    cheers,
    Mike
