Default Numb Toes - any ideas?

I have asked my opinion by a runner who gets an onset of numbness of his toes in one foot whilst running. This disappears with rest & he has no other experience of it whilst walking, cycling etc.

He reports no previous history of injury to the foot or leg & a recent change of shoes has had no effect.

Without having had the opportunity to examine it myself(which I've recommended he lets me do) I have suggested maybe an interference with the blood supply or neural pathways.

Has anyone else come across anything like this?

I think your right, most likely due to nerve impingment at some point in the lower leg or ankle.

He definately needs a thorough examination to find the cause of this
