Back in January I fell over and my big toe bent back, I went to hospital and they said "Don't think it's broken, rest for a couple of weeks and come back if it doesn't get better"

4 Months later I was still having problems so I went back, they then said "Doesn't look broken and we only deal with bones, go see your GP"
I then saw the GP who said "I'll refer you to the hospital for an X-Ray"

Then September came round after a few months problem free, I was playing football and volleyed the ball, I didn't hit it awkwardly but the area was painful swollen and bruised.
I then made an appointment to see the GP again to explain what happened and to get an update on the referral, they had no record of a referral and as the swelling and bruising had gone down (2 week wait for an appointment at my GP's), the GP basically said "I don't know, come back it it gets bad again"

Which takes me to yesterday (Apologies for waffling so far), I went training at the gymnasium (hard floor) for the first time this season and the pain I had last night and today has been at times. Excruciating.

My symptoms are basically

Very painful twinges at the joint connecting my big toe and my foot (these twinges aren't set off by anything in particular) although currently no swelling or bruising and no tenderness

Can be very painful when knocked innoccuously and can then swell and bruise

Gets painful when wearing proper shoes (as opposed to trainers).

Does anyone know what this could be and how I could get it sorted?

Cheers
