    Unhappy Ongoing Foot Problems

Hi Im new on here and just wondered whether anyone could give me some advice...

Basically i started getting pain in the arch of my foot 3 and a half years ago- doctors at the time told me i had strained my foot and the usual rest was prescribed, i would rest then ease myself back into sport slowly and the pain would come back, had this diagnosis 2 or 3 times over a year or so before i was referred to the local hospital. At the hospital i was told i may have plantar fasciitis (later told it wasnt this as the pain is more up towards my toes than my heel), overpronation and my feet were starting to flatten so i had some custom orthotics made. basically they were made too narrow so i ended up with bruising underneath my feet and ended up having another set made which had too much of an outward tilt so i then ended up with some ligament damage and a final set which kind of fitted but i was unable to do sport in. so now 8 months down the line i can no longer wear the orthotics because of the pain they cause, i am in pain in the morning in my arches which doesnt ease up until around 8pm! and i often have
no feeling in 2 or 3 of my toes on the worse affected foot.

i am now stuck as to where to head for advice next, i am having massage and sports therapy on them but its just not having any affect and the pain is now really starting to get to me as i cannot play hockey or football anymore and it is starting to affect me at work.

Would anyone advise trying to go to a private clinic or any other ideas at all would be much appreciated.

PS Sorry for the long post!

Yes. If you haven't seen a physio or a sports therapist, then try this. They will look at things from a different point of view. Tight calf muscles are a big factor when it comes to PF or any foot pain or injury. Make sure you are stretching these regularly and see if that makes a difference.

been seeing a sports therapist and having been stretching calf and tib ant muscle to see if that helps and getting massage but it seems to ease the problem slightly for about a day and then strikes back.

You probably need to give it longer. If the massage and stretching helps for a bit this suggests you are on the right track, but the changes in your muscle flexibility are not permanent and so the muscle tightens up again when it gets cold or used. Keep at it and the changes will become more permanent.

Thanks Heidi. I am having the same pain right now. A massage might help me with this.

Sound a bit complicated in ways, sorry you have had so much trouble with things, i hope it gets all sorted out for you in the end.

The things you had made, who made them? if they incorrectly made them it could have worsened your symptoms which is never a good thing....
