Default Return to playing after a broken foot

Hi, I broke my foot just over 12 months ago playing soccer and was wondering how do you strap a foot that has been broken to stop re injury? I can run on it no problems if i am goalkeeper but when i tried to play in the outfield about 3 months ago would get pain if i propped to change direction on in and was scared was going to break it again. Would strapping it up help stop that? If so how would i go about strapping it(ie is there a certain way it needs to be strapped up?) do i need to use grass runners instead of boots to play? or is my playing career over with that sort of injury? the bone i broke is on the outside of my left foot about half way up, broke it changing directions in a game.

What treatment did you get when you fractured your foot? Was it in a cast? How long for? Did you get rehab afterwards?

I broke the 5th metatarsal about half way down, they were going to operate but decided not to and foot was in a cast for 7-8weeks. had a little bit of rehab but was mainly about strengthening the calf muscle. Was hospital rehab not sports rehab so i don't think they cared to much about me wanting to return to soccer.

I don't think strapping it will make a whole lot of difference to you. I think instead you need to work more on the rehab side of things, maybe visit a PT for some help to build up the strength and mobility in the foot which should help. Also they might be able to see if you need any orthotics in your boots to help. Even if you didn't before a fracture can alter the biomechanics of the foot.
