Hi there. while performing roundhouse kick i.e kicking in a semicircular fashion hitting with the front of your leg (shin) or foot (top of foot), i hurt my left big toe. my right big toe is also sore but in a very very mild way (not serious).

the pain didnt start immediately but took atmost a week to appear. my left big toe is absolutley fine in all movements, i can easily perform calf raises. there is no swelling or change of colour. no pain is felt if i press my big toe.

however the problem starts when i form a spear of my leg with the big toe as its tip. i can move toe up and down easily as long as my foot is at 90 degree or more to the shin. however when i start stretching my foot and toe down, i feel severe pain on the right side of my toe. i dont feel absolutely no pain in any part of my foot.

let me restate the posture in which i feel pain. its just like when the shin, the top of foot and toe are in one stratight line. or as i you want to press a small button with yor foot. i hope the spear analogy draws a clear picture.

the injury has serious implicaitions while roundhouse kicks. not matter if i hit with my shin or foot, i feel pain as the foot is stretched away from shin, along with the toe.

i have stopped roundhouse kicks with my left leg. however i still train (that involves a lot of footwork) as long as i dont have to go in the above mentioned posture.

i took one week of from training after i felt pain but when not even a bit of recovery happened i started training again. it has been a 20 days since i started feeling pain.

i am 26. 18 stones, 6 feet tall. i have 25 percent body fat but iam very very active for the past one year.i have been training since early march for martial arts (newcomer). i upped my training 2 months ago with maximum exertion (especially roundhouse kicks during the thai kickboxing session) in the days i got the injury, with training 12 hrs that week. including resistance training (very light, no funny moves). i have history of diabetes and heart disease in my family.

waiting for the reply. :-)
