    Unhappy Sharp pain in foot

    Hello everyone!

So I have had sharp pain on the outside of my foot for several weeks now. I have been exercising on an elliptical all winter, but have been able to get outside every once in awhile for a long jog. One day while jogging, I started feeling a sharp pain, and eventually had to stop because of it. The pain lasted for several days, but then became un-noticable. About a week later, the same thing happened, and I've had the pain ever since (it's been about a week since my last jog). I have continued to go on the elliptcal, but I have not tried to go running since then, because I'm afraid that it will be too painful. The pain is much worse with exercise. It does not hurt when I push on the affected area, only when bearing weight (walking or running). The pain seems to be right around a bony part of my foot. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? I thought maybe stress fracture, but wasn't sure because it doesn't hurt when I push on it... Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thank you!

    Hi

Your pain could be several things but I don't think its a stress fracture as you would have had to be doing a lot of running to suffer this.

It is more likely that is it peroneal pain. Have a look here:

    This can sometimes also occur:

Either way you do need to rest from running and work out what is causing it. It could be foot biomechanics or tight calf muscles. It could even be coming from higher up, for e.g. the hip.

Have you had any previous leg injuries?

I would personally visit someone who can assess your movement patterns and posture to determine what is causing the problem.

I haven't had any leg injuries, but do have some pain on the outside/back of my knee. Do you think those are related? I read a little about the cuboid syndrome and the peroneal tendinapthy, and I feel like the tendinapathy could be it. Thank you so much for your reply to my post!
