Hello,
Had a look through all the previous toe threads and nothing matches so here goes.
Stubbed my toe 4 weeks ago. Third toe of right foot. Pretty sore but could still walk ok on it. Bruised up and a little swollen the next few days but nothing too bad. It was mainly sore when holding the end of the toe and moving it to the outside of my foot (Toe of right foot moving towards the right). Pain on touch was really on the very tip of the toe and towards where it met the middle bone. More on the left side of the toe too.
When I stubbed it I was walking through a door and to the left. The thing I hit it against was on the right hand side. So instead of hitting it straight on I hit it at an angle. I think the toe may have been stubbed and whipped out towards the right at the same time.
Since then did a bit of biking, yoga and swimming. Even played golf. It got gradually better as per any other minor sounding injury. No problems - in fact I did a few wee bend and such tests on it after 3 or so weeks and no pain at all. So assumed it was pretty much gone and healed. However - I have worn Vibram 5 fingers for walking about occasionally for over a year now - feet definately feeling good and strong as a result. So after 3 weeks of rest and the toe feeling fine I wore these for a day in my office. Nothing major - just to toilet and lunch and back etc.. as I usually do.
Later that night/next day the toe was sore again. I know the 5 fingers 'stretch' your toes out a little and as my pain from the stubbing seemed to be from bending the toe towards the right - I think this seems related ? Playing golf or cycling or yoga seemed to do no harm at all. But one day of walking around in my 5 fingers did. Seems strange.
I have had a google of toes and notice there are ligaments that run up the side of each toe where the end bit of toe meets the middle bit. I am thinking the stubbing stretched/tore these ligaments and that is why the sideways motion hurts it - whilst just walking on it etc.. seems to cause no increase in pain.
Went to A & E but they wouldnt x-ray as they said there was no point. I would really like to know for sure that it is def not broken - should I go back and ask for an x-ray ? As since I wore the 5 fingers for that day it has been sore ever since. Which seems very strange as it had fully healed up - or so I thought.
Any help much appreciated.
