    Angry Ankle MRI

could someone to explain what this means, I have just been and picked up my ankle MRI after ongoing chronic instability, it reads :

moderate effusion and oedema involving posterior syndesmotic, transverse and posterior talofibular ligament.
These changes are probably consistent with posterior impingement.

Minor amount of fluid and oedema in the sinus tarsi without changes in the surrounding bones - possible mild sinus tarsi syndrome.

Cystic changes in the distal posterior part of the lateral malleolus probably related with previous trauma.
Tiny tenosynovitis or only minor amount of fluid of peroneus brevis and longus tendons.

I have been referred to see an orthopaedic specialist as a result of this scan but would really appreciate some advice about exercises etc i could carry out. I was initially seeing a sports therapist who gave me strengthening and proprioceptive exercises, i have been carrying on with these with pain.

Firstly you shouldn't be doing anything which causes pain.

Your MRI suggests a number of minor problems, including the lateral ligaments, sinus tarsi syndrome and peroneal tendinopathy.

You can find more on each of these problems on site.

Between now and your referral appointment I would suggest you rest the ankle from anything which causes pain. Just try to keep it moving with gentle mobility exercises and stretching.
