    Default Ankle problem

In a nutshell, I have a problem with left ankle. Back in 2004 developed pain on inside of ankle during a run. MRI scan showed nothing abnormal. Went ahead with ankle arthroscopy and minor release of posterior tibial tendon to relieve symptons. Ankle fine when running for 6 years, although did develop ITBS in left knee, which may have been consequence of invasive action? In January this year, ankle pain returned suddenly during run. Sharp, shooting pain - unable to put much weight on left leg. I have been seeing a sports physio for last 3 months whose prescribed numerous exercises (mainly to sort out weakness on left side of body), but still get ankle problem - and pain now appears to move around the ankle - sometimes on the front or outside of ankle bone. It's as if there is something moving around inside the ankle?? Inside of ankle feels tight, but initial pain back in January not returned. Bizarrley, jumping on the left leg 30 odd times eases the pain, which implies nothing major wrong. Definitely averse to any more surgery, yet losing confidence with physio, who appears to have run out of ideas.

If it's of any help: I have had a swelling on the inside of the ankle since 1994 but no idea how it got there: Pain seems to be worse when I perform aggressive lower calf stretches (as prescribed) - my left leg does not stretch anywhere as near as far as my right when I bend forward. Pain also worse when i wear high profile shoes or trainers, especially walking boots.

    Any ideas?

    Hi
You haven't mentioned anything about your foot position etc. Have you had this assessed? If you are not sure what I mean, do the words pronation, supination etc mena anything to you.
This should be one of the first things to be looked at when you have a foot/ankle injury.

Yes, i do over-pronate and was prescribed orthotics, but i hated them and have since resorted to barefoot running which i actually prefer. I don't do a lot of running, but what i do is quality.
