Hello,
Am looking for some advice regarding an injury. Not sure whether it's an ankle joint / ligament or tendon problem:
Quick background - am a regular runner, training 4 - 5 times per week. A month ago, during a long run, I noticed a pain at the front of my (left) ankle. With it raining heavily and windy, I ran on to get to my car a further 2 miles. Ankle was really hurting by the time I finished my run.
Ran later that week and ankle / lower part of shin hurt. No running since - too painful.
Symptoms: - Slightly tender to touch, but no real pain or swelling. Did not notice ankle 'give way' or turn over at all. Also shin pain halfway up, which is tender. Pain when flexing foot upwards, especially when trying to perform the well known calf stretch.
Treatment so far: - Have tried RICE, heat therapy, self massage and rest, but no improvement yet. Running is impossible (too painful), walking ok, but going up and down stairs is also painful.
Most worrying symptom of all is a complete loss of balance - ankle doesnt feel it belongs to my body any more. I'm ok with cycling and swimming, but that's it. With my job I drive a lot so use the clutch all the time - don't think this is helping.
Any ideas what this could be? I have booked a Dr's appointment in a weeks time. Just want my ankle better and to run again. Thank you!
