Angry Calf keeps cramping when I try to run!

Hi I have been VERY frustrated lately!! My right calf in November cramped on a run and did not "release" until a month of cross training and babying that calf! Well I went to Mexico and tried a run and was successful for two days and then BOOM out of nowhere that calf "grabbed again" I walked back to the hotel got a massage and thought OK rest till I get back home and try again. Well I got home cross trained on the elliptical and took a snow boarding lesson and cont cross training for a week and was fine UNTIL today that calf grabbed on me on the elliptical!! What could it be??? It seems to come on for NO reason!!! Now it feels a bit better but I do have (and have had since Mexico) swelling on the right front side of the calf.

I am bummed---as I have REALLY missed my running and seeing as my husband just moved me to Kansas working out is my best outlet!!! HELP!!!

    Hi,
Cramps for the athlete could be any number of existing problems so lets start with some solutions. Lack of fluids, water, or some sort of fluid, should be consumed at least every 30-45 minutes, as a minimum, or more frequently in extreme heat. Lack of certain Electrolyes could be causing you this difficulty. Not knowing your degree of conditioning, sometimes backing off the speed during the run may assist.
Good luck on your next run.
    Arnie
